By: Filip Galekovic
Risk of Rain 2’s modding community is positively thriving already. We were surprised to see just how advanced some of these mods are! We’d say ROR2 has far surpassed its predecessor already, far as modding goes, but that would be a big friggin’ understatement right there!
What we aim to do with this article is to present you with a number of high-quality mods you can install and play right this instant. The process of setting them up might be a bit unintuitive at first, however, so we’ve also prepared a small modding guide for Risk of Rain 2. Let’s get started!
Learn about:
How to install Risk of Rain 2 Mods?
Some games are easy to mod. Others, not so much. Thankfully, installing Risk of Rain 2 mods isn’t that big of a bother, but it might put off those who don’t have much experience with these things. If you just follow the steps outlined below, however, you’ll be good to go in no time at all!
The obvious first step, right? Visit the RoR2ModManager’s mod listing page and hit ‘Manual Download’ to get the required files onto your PC. It’s a simple enough folder, consisting of the following files:
It should all work well afterward!
This is a simple but extremely important step. As soon as you open up the Mod Manager interface, you should be treated with a menu showcasing some of the more popular mods available via the Thunderstore website.
You can safely ignore most of these for the time being, except for the following two:
These are essential prerequisites for any sort of advanced Risk of Rain 2 modding. Without them, you are bound to encounter crashes and all sorts of other, less prominent issues, so get ahead of that and get them in right away.
When you’ve got both of the mods mentioned above ticked off, hit the ‘Apply’ button in the lower right corner of the interface for the next dialogue window to pop up.
There, check the lower-left corner of the menu to tick the ‘Apply these changes’ option, and hit ‘Next’.
The application will download everything you need to finally get to picking and choosing your own perfect suite of mods for Risk of Rain 2. Best of all? The Thunderstore website offers you to download whatever you want through the Mod Manager itself, so if you’ve completed the installation procedure successfully, the rest will be smooth sailing!
Risk of Rain 2 Best Mods
Now that you know how to install ROR 2 mods, it’s time for you to choose a variety you’re most interested in! As always with player-driven content, it can be a bit of a crapshoot. If you know how to pick ’em, though, boy are you in for a heap of fun! First, we’re going to show you three of our favorites so far. Afterward, we’ll also provide you with a list of other high-quality offerings you might be interested in. That way, you’ll get to choose from over a dozen awesome community modules to upgrade your game with! Win-win!
Risk of Rain 2 Sniper Mod
No, really. It’s the Sniper: she’s back, and better than ever before! Those who had the chance to play the first Risk of Rain game will recall the Sniper. Being the ultimate boss-killer Survivor, she focused on slow, deliberate bursts of damage and significant mobility options to, well, stay alive. In this rendition of her Risk of Rain 2 appearance, she’s better than ever, and comes with a batch of unique mechanics to boot. For example, holding the right mouse button will trigger her over-the-shoulder aim mode, and the longer you hold it, the more powerful will the resultant shot be. Further, each round needs to be manually loaded into the rifle via a small Gears of War-Esque minigame. The Sniper also comes with a batch of awesome skins and alternate abilities, as well as Challenges to unlock more of them. A must-have, really!
Risk of Rain 2 First-Person Mod
Ever wanted to play Risk of Rain 2 FPS mode? Well, with this mod, you can! It’s a delightfully simple prospect, too. The mod simply makes it so that the game is rendered from a first-person perspective. Due to model constraints and asset issues, you’re not going to see your characters’ weapons, however. It’s a wonderfully arcadey and fast experience, however impractical it might be when the game really gets going. Perfect for screenshots and joke runs, if nothing else!
Risk of Rain 2 Item Share Mod
ShareSuite is a dream come true for cooperative players of Risk of Rain 2. Namely, if you ever wanted to just stop fighting other players for valuable items, and work together for a change, this is an absolute must-have. It’s a simple tweak, too: any items that are picked up are given to all living members of the party! Nothing short of a game-changer, we’re telling you. There are a few other features to ShareSuite, too, as it’s a fairly robust modification. For example, it doesn’t share party-level items and Lunar items, and the money works on a shared pool sort of basis with it. There’s a bunch of configuration options available in the mod files for those who wish to fine-tune the game even further. Developers promise a vanilla-tier playing experience, with an appropriate level of polish. We love it!
Risk of Rain 2 Best Mods List

Hot Tip
These APIs give great facilities for the installation of mods and help them make compatible and many of mods that are listed here require at least one of these to work properly.
Now let’s get down to the business here are best risk of rain 2 mods for you.
1. ShareSuit
Have you ever had someone swoop in and steal that item you just bought? Ever accidentally touched and picked up an item that you were saving for your friend? Aggravating, right?
This mod has been developed in response to frustration caused the way items are distributed in Risk of Rain 2. With ShareSuite, we aim to fix that!
Multiplayer RoR2 games should be fast-paced wacky fun. Often times, though, players run into problems with loot being stolen or one player dominating the game.
Obviously, the best way to solve this issue is to remove the incentive to hoard the loot in the first place!
2. TooManyFriends
You come home, friday night, and boot up discord. First thing you see is all four of your friends playing Risk of Rain 2 together, and all you want is to one day be able to join them.
You’re well aware that the lobbies are limited to 4 players, they told you when you asked if you could join.
Congratulations. This mod is for you.
Link it to your friends and you can all play together, no more simple excuses.
3. Sniper
This mod Adds a Sniper character to the game, complete with an original model and animations (by Drag), a polished kit, and a lot more content planned.
Note: Everyone in multiplayer must have the exact same version of this mod or you will be unable to join the lobby.
4. BiggerBazaar
This mod expands the bazaar with items to purchase. Use money or alternatively lunar coins to purchase items.
5. EmptyChestsBeGone
I developed this simple mod because I felt sometimes it was not easy to determine if something had been looted at a glance, especially from far away.
Now any time someone opens a chest or barrel, the game will remove the object as soon as the animation is done. No more second guessing!
6. FirstPersonView
Might not be exactly what you’re looking for though, if you want to be able to see your arms and weapon like in a typical FPS, this does not give you that.
I will also mention that aside from things like losing core art aspects like visually seeing items on your character, playing the game in first-person like this makes you drastically less aware of your surroundings. The game is not meant to be played in first-person.
7. BanditReloaded
This mod Adds Bandit as a playable survivor with 4 alt skills! Now with support for the Ancient Scepter from ThinkInvis’s ClassicItems mod!
8. RogueWisp
This mod Includes an entirely original survivor and a new late game boss. The survivor is a close range caster with very high damage potential but no mobility and limited defensive options. You may recognize the boss from RoR1.
A totally new survivor built entirely from scratch. Only reused one of hopoos meshes.
A new boss enemy that spawns late game (around overloading worm time).
Note that in order to use this mod in multiplayer, everyone must have this mod installed and be on the same version.
It takes the same networking approach as the vanilla game, meaning it assumes that every client has the same, or nearly the same, internal setup in order to greatly reduce the amount of network traffic.
9. PlayableAkali
This mod let you Play as Akali from League of Legends! Her kit features the her Passive, Q, W(shroud) and her ultimate from league of legends.
They work and function exactly as expected from the actual game and have more detailed descriptions with numbers in game.
Currently aware of a bug that allows items on akali to be visible for other clients. (Items are not supposed to be visible on her character body).
10. Aatrox
This mod Adds an edgy Dante wannabe, now with Bury The Light and guns!
Aatrox is a fragile, highly complex melee survivor who relies on healing via his primary to sustain himself while consuming his health to dish out heavy damage with intricate combos.
Aatrox’s primary, Blood thirst, is a standard 3 hit combo that heals you on the third hit. While the healing is powerful, it should not be assumed that he can just heal through everything. Carelessness and overconfidence will prove to be a fatal flaw.
11. Lemurian
As a master of fire, the Lemurian is able to build up a buff that increases the chance to ignite enemies on hit. Every stack increases the chance for 1%.
Some abilities also gain a damage buff in different kind of ways. You gain a Fire Buff stack for every enemy hit, that lasts for 15 seconds.
When having aquired 375 Fire Buff stacks on one stage, you get the Switch Buff. For this you have an additional buff, that indicates how many Fire Buff stacks you have already aquired.
Having the Switch Buff ready, you are able to transform into an Elder Lemurian. You are then able to use a limited amount of strong skills. You can switch back all the time by using the special skill. To switch, just press “T” key
12. RonaldHuntress
A cursed skin a friend of mine wanted of Huntress as Ronald McDonald. This is my first ever skin, so I had no idea what I was doing!
I hope for some reason you enjoy this? Or that it even works
13. StartingItemsGUI
This mod will allow players to use a GUI to select which items will be given to them at the start of a run. There are 4 modes: Free, Earnt Persistent, Earnt Consumable and Random.
This mod was inspired by features in other roguelike games such as Undermine, Dungreed and Dead Cells.
The goal was to give a returning player a sense of progression, to give them a boost to make them more formidable the more they play.
14. SkillsPlusPlus
While ingame your will earn skill points at certain levels that can be used to purchase upgrades to your characters skills.
By default, your first skill point is earned upon reaching level five, and subsequently rewards every fifth level.
You can change the number of levels between skill points within the gameplay settings in Risk of Rain 2. Changes to this setting will be applied at the start of each run.
15. UrnIgnoresAllies
This risk of rain 2 mod let you Changes Mired Urn’s targeting to filter out allies. Should make it less frustrating for multiplayer.
