Top 10 Strongest Characters in Hunter x Hunter Series, Ranked!
Hunter x Hunter has received widespread attention both in Japan as well as internationally. It has solidified its place as one of the most popular Shounen series despite the long Hiatus and discontinuation of the anime.
However, the manga is still going on, and despite the slow updates, the story is entering an exciting arc. Some incredibly powerful characters are revealed, and the mysterious Ging’s strength is finally shown.
In this list, I have ranked the top 10 strongest characters in the series, in my opinion. The rankings are based on their strength, intelligence, and feats.
Zeno Zoldyck is the grandfather of Killua Zoldyck and an extremely skilled assassin. His mastery over Nen, his training as an assassin, and the experience gathered over the years of activity make him an extremely powerful fighter.
His name alone is enough to frighten anyone with knowledge about the underworld.
Zeno once stated that he was confident in killing a whole group of armed Mafia members within seven seconds.
He even said that Chrollo Lucifer, the Phantom Troupe leader, would only have stood a chance against him if he fought him with the intent to kill.
Due to his age, he is only placed at the 10th place.
Botobai Gigante is a Triple-Star Terrorist Hunter and the eldest member of the Zodiacs with the codename “Dragon”.
Botobai’s authority in the Hunter Association is inferior only to that of Cheadle herself.
As a Triple-Star Terrorist Hunter, Botobai has powers and assets unavailable even to pro Hunters. He has extensive knowledge of security and anti-terrorism measures.
He was even once said to be closest to Netero in power. However, since his powers are unknown, he is placed in the 9th position.
Beyond Netero is the leader of the Dark Continent Expedition Team and the son of former Hunter Association Chairman, Isaac Netero.
He has a tremendous degree of power and intelligence, as he was able to manipulate the superpowers of the world into endorsing his project.
As one of the very few Dark Continent survivors who returned sound in mind and body, he is bound to have extreme survival skills and strength.
Being a veteran explorer of the Dark Continent, the need to be watched by 4 Zodiacs simultaneously, and being the leader of many Nen users makes him one of the strongest characters in the series.
He ranks in eighth place as of now since the extent of his powers is unknown.
Shaiapouf was a butterfly-humanoid Chimera Ant and one of the Chimera Ant King’s Royal Guards. As a Royal Guard, Shaiapouf is one of the four most powerful Chimera Ants in Meruem’s colony.
Although Shaiapouf has superhuman strength and durability, he fights primarily by relying on his tactical skills.
He was able to knock down Morel with a surprise kick and was confident that he would be able to kill Gon with a sneak attack.
He even managed to survive a head-on tail whip from Meruem, ending up with just a bruise and some bleeding on his face.
He is the seventh strongest character in Hunter x Hunter.
Menthuthuyoupi was a Chimera Ant and the youngest of the Chimera Ant King’s three Royal Guards.
Menthuthuyoupi was an immensely powerful being who boasted incredible physical strength, which he could enhance with his aura.
He could also shapeshift to enhance it even further. He was able to fight Shoot, whom he put in critical condition in less than 20 seconds of combat and Knuckle and Meleoron at the same time.
In fact, he had the chance to kill the former four while suffering next to no damage from their attacks. He remains steady at the 6th place on this list.
Compared to the rest of the Royal Guard, Neferpitou was the strongest. It was so strong that it could travel great distances in a single leap and kill Kite in seconds. Pitou’s aura was so terrifying that it instilled fear even in the strongest of Hunters.
Through Nen, Pitou was able to summon different puppets to heal wounds or take control of others. Its desire to serve Meruem is so strong that even after death, one of its Nen puppet’s continued to exist.
By manipulating its corpse, the puppet allowed Pitou to continue fighting for the sake of protecting Meruem.
Even Netero wondered if Neferpitou was stronger than him. Due to its feats, Pitou ranks at the 5th place.
Ging Freecss is Gon’s father and a former Zodiac with the codename “Boar”. He is also a Double-Star Ruins Hunter, though it is believed that he can apply for a Triple-Star License with his abilities.
It was him who was the main creator of the Nen-based game Greed Island.
Along with other feats such as capturing Razor, Ging is bound to be extremely proficient in Nen. In fact, Chairman Netero once told Biscuit that Ging was one of the five best Nen users in the world.
Along with Nen, he also possesses immense speed and intelligence. In fact, his power might come second to his wit. He is arguably one of the most intelligent characters of the series.
He can also generally mimic other people’s abilities as long as he has been hit with it. Even this extraordinary ability is just natural talent and not a Nen ability.
It is assumed that his power is either equal to Netero’s or a bit weaker.
Issac Netero was the Chairman of the Hunter Association and one of the most powerful hunters. In his prime, he was considered the most powerful Hunter and Nen user in the world. He is also the fastest character, despite being over 100 years old.
He spent years training both his body and Nen ability to their peak.
Netero’s Nen ability allows him to assemble the 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, which can unleash over 1000 devastating blows in seconds.
Though he lost against Meruem, he fulfilled his goal by killing and making the invincible King feel fear for the first time.
Honorary Mention: Maha Zoldyck
Netero’s power is tied in third place with Maha – the oldest and strongest member of the Zoldyck Family, who was incredibly powerful in his youth.
Isaac Netero, who once considered the strongest fighter in the world, received acclaim for just coming out alive in a battle against him.
After discovering that Neferpitou could not revive Kite, in a state of immense emotional distress, Gon vowed to extinguish all his future potential to exact revenge.
Due to this, he was able to summon all the power he would ever have and grew to an age where he could defeat Neferpitou. Adult Gon Freecss is currently the strongest Hunter in the Hunter x Hunter series.
His physical strength, Nen abilities, aura output, and aura reserves increased dramatically, to the point that the Royal Guard feared he might pose a threat to Meruem himself.
His heightened speed and reflexes allowed him to easily dodge Neferpitou’s Terpsichora and, with a single kick, was capable of throwing it dozens of meters into the air.
His first Jajanken blasted Neferpitou up the side of a hill and caused it to lose consciousness, and with a few more blasts, he killed it quickly.
This power, comparable to the Chimera Ant King, deserves to be ranked as the second strongest.
Meruem, the ‘Chimera King’ is the strongest character in Hunter x Hunter series and the most powerful offspring of the Chimera Ant Queen. He died due to an illness and is yet to be defeated in a battle of strength.
From the time of his birth, he was already the most powerful character in the series.
His tremendous physical prowess, along with an unparalleled intellect placed him well above the domain of humans. He was born with the ability to use Nen and had a vastly superhuman amount of aura.
After consuming Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, his aura became such that Knuckle believed that they would need a whole country’s military power to defeat him.

Since 1998, Hunter x Hunter has been one of Shonen Jump’s most popular series. It has produced a manga as well as two anime and movie adaptations. Despite some frequently prolonged hiatuses, the ongoing manga and is currently up to 390 chapters.
Over the years, the series has introduced some exceptional characters like protagonists Gon Freecss and his friend Killua Zoldyck. Furthermore, there are plenty of individuals that have performed feats that make them some of the strongest fighters in anime. 15 The Chimera Ants Gain Powers By Eating Others
In general, the Chimera Ants aren’t that powerful. They’re certainly voracious and eat anything in their path. That includes humans. Particularly those with unique powers. Hence, the reason these colonies can gain the powers they need.
Some groups of Chimera Ants have become so powerful due to their devouring that they’ve established a human-like form. As a result of this, they are one of the first set of magical beasts that are considered for quarantine.
14 Young Gon Freeces Is Power Without Responsibility
Hunter X Hunter‘s protagonist, Gon Freeces, is a powerful young man. He has the Nen of Enchantment, which enhances his strength and allows him to rapidly heal from injuries. Unfortunately, these powers are muted due to his lack of responsibility.
Like other pre-teens, Gon is more concerned about his ego. He wants to gain as much power as possible in little time. Thus, he recklessly uses his abilities, especially when he’s angry. He could be an amazingly useful Hunter if he had some control.
13 Killua Zoldyck Is Violent But Loyal
Gon’s friend, Killua Zoldyck, is similar in personality to Marvel’s Wolverine. On one side of the coin, this Hunter X Hunter personality is a one-person killing machine. On the other side, he’s incredibly loyal and does what he can to save his friends.
For instance, Killua was able to utilize his sibling’s Nen of healing to cure a dying Gon. He has also pushed himself in battles against the Chimera Ants and the video game Greed Island. Though his power to convert his aura’s energies into electricity is strong, it’s his dedication that is Killua’s true strength.
12 Kurapika Has A Hand Filled With Power
Others tend to take Kurapika for granted. After all, the character’s Nen is to generate various chains from the right hand. However, antagonists don’t realize what these do.
Kurapika’s ring finger contains a ball at the end of its chain for defensive moves and dowsing for water and precious materials. The middle finger chain is used to incapacitate others. Kurapika’s little finger shouldn’t be underestimated. The chain on this one can stab at an enemy’s heart.
11 Feitan Portor Transmutes Injury Into Strength
Feitan Portor is another Hunter X Hunter character similar to a Marvel personality— this time it’s the Hulk. No matter the incarnation, when the Green Behemoth gets angry he becomes stronger. In the case of Feitan, it’s his injuries that make him stronger.
This is a useful tool as long as he can withstand the hurt. From this Nen, he’s created a miniature sun that burns anyone around him. On top of this, Feitan is incredibly swift. So much so that he can leave an afterimage of himself during battle.
10 Zeno Zoldyck Is Old & Powerful
Zeno Zoldyck may be old but that doesn’t stop him from being one of the most lethal assassins in Hunter x Hunter. His physical strength far exceeds his age. Additionally, Zeno’s speed and fighting prowess were enough to put Chrollo Lucifer, the leader of the Phantom Troupe, on the defensive.
As a Transmuter, he manipulates his Nen aura and changes its shape to form dragon-like constructs. While it is mainly an offensive move, Zeno also uses this technique to transport himself and others across vast distances. With his Dragon Dive technique, he can create hundreds of aura dragons that rain down like meteors and cause widespread devastation. Overall, not bad for an old man.
9 Hisoka Morow Likes To Battle Stronger Opponents
With an alias like the Grim Reaper, Hisoka Morow is the last person you want to cross paths with. While not exactly evil, Hisoka takes extreme satisfaction in fighting and killing strong opponents. As a former member of the Phantom Troupe, Hisoka ranked third in terms of pure physical strength.
His Nen ability is the versatileBungee Gum, which gives his aura the properties of rubber and gum. Along with his other ability of Texture Surprise, he can recreate missing limbs and simulate the appearance of human skin. In the manga, Hisoka manages to bring himself back to life after losing a match against Chrollo. Considering that Nen becomes stronger after death, this character’s threat level has never been higher.
8 Silva Zoldyck Shouldn’t Be Taken Lightly
As the current head of the Zoldyck family, Silva is a dangerous man. Much like his son Killua, he is immune to even the most lethal poisons and can perform superhuman feats. One example is how he jumped from the sky and literally got the drop on a Chimera Ant squadron leader, crushing its head with a single blow.
Silva has also defeated a member of the Phantom Troupe, further supporting that he is not to be taken lightly. In terms of his Nen ability, he is an Emitter and a Transmuter with some expertise as an Enhancer. Using his Nen, Silva converts his aura into large orbs of destructive energy.
7 Chrollo Lucifer Is One Of The Series’ Strongest Characters
As the leader of the Phantom Troupe, Chrollo is one of the strongest characters in Hunter x Hunter. He fought both Silva and Zeno while holding back and still survived. This speaks volumes of his power. Even Zeno admits that, if Chrollo fought seriously, even he would have trouble defeating him.
As a Specialist, Chrollo is a powerful Nen user who removes other’s abilities and uses them as his own. In the past, he could only use one ability at a time. In the manga, he overcomes this weakness and can use two abilities simultaneously. Chrollo is also the first character to mortally wound Hisoka.
6 Shaiapouf Utilizes The Maximum Power Of His Nen
From the moment that Shaiapouf and the other Royal Guards were born, they possessed incredible power. In a short period, he developed an aura output that surpassed even that of Isaac Netero, the chairman of the Hunter Association. Shaiapouf possesses immense physical strength and can run and fly at supersonic speeds. His powers include using scale dust to hypnotize humans, turning people into Chimera Ants, and even bestowing Nen abilities onto others.
Shiaiapouf can also create copies of himself, decreasing in size with every copy he makes. By creating thousands of miniature duplicates, he can infiltrate even the most secure locations and spy on his enemies without detection.
5 Menthuthuyoupi (Youpi) Is A Human-Chimera Ant Hybrid
In terms of both appearance and power, Menthuthuyoupi is nothing short of a monster. Unlike other human-Chimera Ant hybrids, he is a fusion between a Chimera Ant and a Magical Beast. This gives him the unique ability to control and modify any part of his body. He can grow extra arms and eyes, create animal wings to fly, and morph his limbs into blades.
When enraged, Youpi pressurizes and stores his aura to gather large quantities of energy. Once he reaches his limit, he unleashes the power in a massive explosion. After learning to control his rage, Youpi channels it into a new and more powerful transformation that easily overpowers his enemies.
4 Neferpitou Instills Fear In The Strongest Hunters
Compared to the rest of the Royal Guard, Neferpitou is undoubtedly the strongest of the three. They are so strong that they can travel great distances in a single leap. Neferpitou’s aura is so terrifying that it instills fear in even the strongest of Hunters.
The character’s Nen ability allows them to summon different types of puppets. They either heal wounds through advanced surgery or take control of others. 3 Adult Gon Freecss Is A Force To Be Reckoned With
Despite his young age, Gon’s mastery of Nen, along with his Jajanken ability, makes him a strong fighter. After his friend Kite is captured and killed by the Chimera Ants, he becomes consumed by revenge. This changes not just his personality but his aura as well. After confronting Neferpitou, who was responsible for killing Kite, Gon made a Nen Contract to increase his strength.
By sacrificing his lifeforce and natural talents, his body matured to a state where he could beat Neferpitou. As an adult, Gon becomes just as powerful as Meruem. As a result, Neferpitou is powerless to stop him from crushing his head in just two blows.
2 Isaac Netero Is The Most Powerful Hunter & Nen User
As chairman of the Hunter Association, Netero spent years training both his body and his Nen ability to their peaks. 1 Meruem Is The Most Powerful Character, Hands Down
From the moment of his birth, Meruem was already more powerful than any other character in Hunter x Hunter. He is extremely intelligent, able to process thousands of possible scenarios in mere seconds, and was strong enough to push back against the hands of Netero’s 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva.
Meruem’s body was also durable enough to allow him to survive the equivalent of a nuclear explosion, although it did reduce him to a near-death state. He has the power to become stronger by consuming Nen users and obtaining their abilities in the process. He displayed this when he absorbed Shaiapouf’s and Youpi’s powers, which he uses on a more advanced scale.

Ты девушка милая и добродушная твоя семья очень хорошо знакомо ч семьей Золдик. Хоть и нельзя сказать что ваша семья была в хороших отношениях с семьей Золдик, вы с Аллукой в детстве часто вместе играли. Твоя семья полностью состоит из очень сильных и знаменитых Хантеров и по этому поводу детства тебя тренировали на Хантера. Тренировки хоть и были сложными но ты терпела по трем причинам.
1) ты хотела стать Хантером
2) не хотела разочаровать родителей
3) ты знала что у Золдиков тренировки куда сложнее и жестче чем твои.
После в свои 11 ты смогла пройти этот экзамен и стать полноценным Хантером. Конечно ты понимала что на последнем тесте тебе специально поддались.
Гон: она очень милая! И она мне очень нравится! Не знаю почему может потому что мы с ней очень похожи? /близкие друзья. А может и больше/

Ты обычная девушка с большим потенциалом. До 9 лет ты жила беззаботной жизнью как все обычные дети. Но после этого на ваш городок обрушился голод и бедность, за все это время ты сражалась за жизнь со своей мамой но после твоя мама заболела. Денег совсем не было даже на нормальную еду что уж говорить про лекарство. С ранних лет ты умела драться и жить совсем как взрослый человек. И за это время
натренировала в себе качество как выносливость и хладнокровность. Когда тебе было 12 ты услышала про экзамен Хантеров, кто они такие и сколько зарабатывают, ты начала тренироваться и через месяц пошла на сдачу экзамена. Но экзамен прошла со второго раза. Почему со второго? Потому что первый раз ты не подготовилась достойно, думала что там кучка слабаков но как оказалось там есть очень даже сильные противники. Там ты и повстречала Гона, Киллуа, Леорио и Курапику.

Гон: ну.. Она очень милая и веселая! Мы с ней познакомились в экзамене и с тех пор не разлучны!/лучшие друзья/
Киллуа: поначалу мне она не нравилась. И Гон тоже ей прилип. Так что мы частенько вместе ходили. Но сейчас я понимаю что она не такая и скучная как кажется, веселая и довольно сильная /близкие друзья/
Курапика: она красивая. И с детства повидала многое. Во время экзамена мы с ней много общались но сейчас особо то и не видимся. /друзья, а может и больше. Скучает по тебе. /
